Liberato Defence Lawyers is a boutique criminal defence firm which provides specialist representation to people facing serious and complex criminal charges. We have offices in Newcastle and Sydney and maintain a select practice across New South Wales.

Based in Newcastle, Liberato Defence Lawyers was founded by Damien Mahon, Accredited Specialist in Criminal Law and Lindsay Stankovic.

We offer an alternative to high volume, transactional legal practice. We represent fewer clients so we can focus deeply on each case, making careful forensic decisions to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Every case is partner-led, ensuring clients receive direct access to the firm’s founders throughout the process.

Before founding Liberato, the Partners practiced exclusively in criminal defence at one of Sydney’s leading firms, earning recognition for their skill, preparation, and results in significant and high-profile matters.

The name Liberato comes from the Latin Liberatus, meaning freed or liberated.

The name also carries a distinctly Australian legal meaning. The “Liberato direction” is an instruction commonly given to the jury at the end of a criminal trial.

Our name reflects our values and commitment to freedom, fairness and the presumption of innocence.
